I'm a coder who paints. I'm an artist who likes numbers. I'm a builder and a planner who asks questions and isn't afraid to break the rules. I'm comfortable with being uncategorized.
I started my career as a classically trained artist. This means I draw, I paint and I sculpt. Eventually I learned to draw with a mouse. That was also when I learned that you should never draw with a mouse. Undeterred, I began learning about other kinds of digital art such as 3D modeling and animation. Not long after I was editing video and doing post production work in After Effects. Around this time my love for gaming collided with the release of Flash. I spent several years designing, animating and coding Flash Ad Banners, websites and games. From around 2005 to 2012, I focused my energy on pure design work. I also began to heavily invest my time in studying User Experience Design where I learned about A/B testing, journey maps, building personas, flow chart development and wireframe design. By 2013 I started to want to learn how to code using JavaScript. Fast forward to the present – I'm a senior UX designer and a full stack engineer capable of delivering apps and websites from inception to design and right on through to development. The apps I've created generate $15M of revenue annually and are utilized by over 100,000 customers.
Here are some of my strengths:
Here is how I'd evaluate my core skill set:
Want it to look pretty? Does it need a particular tone or style? Let's talk.
Want to plan how customers will experience it? Let's go!
I can literally create anything you can imagine. I'll do that for you.
Data driven back and front-end coding is my specialty. Call me.
When GLG Engineering underwent structural changes, Joe leaped at the chance to move from designer to developer and has picked up many skills since including Javascript (and various related frameworks) and SQL. Along with his keen sense for UX, he will make a great addition to any team needing Web / UI / UX skill set.
Joe is a great mentor who takes the time to teach others in a way that empowers them. Joe has the insight and expertise that a textbook could never explain, and it shows in the outcomes he delivers.
Once he's provided his ideas, feedback, strategy and infectious enthusiasm to the project, he goes around the room and helps everyone else bring their work to a higher level.
There's no doubt that he's hardworking, efficient, and extremely enthusiastic about his work. But, what's truly exciting about working with Joe - and why I'm recommending him - is his talent. His 3D and flash work "wowed" us (especially the client!), and he was able to overcome creative and technical challenges with impressive results.
